The Magic Number is 20
Sellout Looks Like a Lock for Sports Licensing and Tailgate Show
December 6, 2010

Despite contracting for more exhibit space in 2011, the Sports Licensing and Tailgate Show appears to be headed for a sellout. Last year a few extra booths were squeezed on the opposite side of the “back row,” but with this year’s configuration that probably won’t be an option, according Showproco’s National Sales Director Matt Lawson.

“Coming out of the Thanksgiving break, it looks like we have just over 20 booth units remaining,” says Lawson. “With eight weeks left before the show, those aren’t likely to last very long. We’ve had more than 50 new exhibitors join the show for 2011, and we’re really strong on the Tailgate side. The momentum has been steadily growing since last January’s show.”

Lawson estimates that the number of exhibitors will increase by slightly more than a third, but notes that booth space should rise by 40 to 50 percent, as many vendors have taken larger booths for 2011.

This is excellent news for retailers attending the show. New companies and new products are what trade events are all about. In addition, the number of exclusive show specials in the popular License to Buy program should increase. Making its debut this year, will be the sponsorship of the Sports Licensing and Tailgate Style Show by Corona Extra™, the world’s number one Mexican beer brand.

In addition to its sponsorship, Corona Extra™ will be integrated in the Style Show fashion show with its 2011 branded apparel.

“The Style Show gives buyers an opportunity to see how licensed apparel for men, women and children looks in a fashion-show environment,” says Show Director Stan Schwartz. “Any time you can evaluate products in three dimensions instead of two, you’re going to make the right buying decision.”

The 20-minute Style Show will run five times—twice on Monday and Tuesday, and once on Wednesday. Attendees are also invited to the industry luncheon panels on Monday and Tuesday.

Another boon for retailers is the popular License to Buy program, which offers exclusive show specials AND generates credits toward hotel bills. Buyers who do business on the third day of the show are eligible for Double Rewards.
