Sports Licensing and Tailgate Show Breaks New Ground
Final Numbers Show Record Rise in Attendance
February 2, 2010

The official numbers are in on the 2010 Sports Licensing and Tailgate Show, and they confirm what all the buzz was about. From January 20–22, 4,250 buyers jammed the aisles at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.

That represented a 41% rise, from 3,025 retailers who picked up their badges for the 2009 show. Overall attendance—including buyers, exhibitors, manufacturers reps, industry suppliers, media, and VIPs—rose from about 5,500 to 6,250.

“The buyer number is what truly reflects the robust health of this show,” says Brittany Peitsmeyer, Director of Buyer Relations. “For our exhibitors, and for the industry as a whole, it has a direct correlation to new business.”

Interestingly, the number of pre-registered attendees remained fairly constant—in the low 5,000’s. The major difference between 2009 and 2010 was the number of people who made the trip to Vegas to do business at this show.

“And of course, the energy they brought to the show floor,” says Matt Lawson, the show’s Sales Coordinator. “This was a watershed event for this industry. People realized this is the place to be—the place to tap into the intense passion people in this country have for their favorite teams and schools.”

“The numbers bear this out, too,” adds Peitsmeyer, “A total of 1, 558 individual retailers sent buyers to the show, including more than 500 first-time attendees. ”
