Jack Smith

Industry Legend Jack Smith Joins the Team as “Ambassador for Retailer Education”
Former Sports Authority Chief to Oversee Retailer Education
August 8, 2006

A key component in the inaugural Sports Licensing & Entertainment Marketplace and Tailgate • Picnic Show, November 9-11, 2006 at the Las Vegas Convention Center will be an ambitious series of educational presentations and luncheon seminars exploring the world of licensed product buying and retailing. The show’s conference effort is being spearheaded by Jack A. Smith, founder of The Sports Authority, and, prior to that, Chief Operating Officer of Herman’s Sporting Goods. Smith will act as the show’s “Ambassador for Retailer Education,” according to Showproco, LLC, Conference Coordinator Valerie Garcia

“Jack has seen it all and done it all in sports product and licensed product
retailing,” says Garcia, “so obviously this won’t be your typical trade-show
seminar series. His imprint will be on every session, and his contacts and
reputation in our industry ensures that we will be able to assemble a
first-rate roster of experts and speakers.”

Smith has pursued a variety of business ventures since resigning as Chairman
of the Board of The Sports Authority in 1999. He now sits on the boards of
Darden Restaurants and I-Trax, a national on-site healthcare provider.“

Our relationship with Jack Smith goes back many years, and it is wonderful
to have him on board, particularly in this capacity,” says Show Director
Stanley Schwartz. “It would not be an understatement to say that he
understands the challenges of sports retailing like no one else out there
today. With Jack at the helm, our conference series moves to a whole new
level,” said Schwartz.

Sports Licensing & Entertainment Marketplace and Tailgate • Picnic Show bring buyers and sellers together to create the largest and most dynamic sports licensing showcase for new partnerships, progressive ideas and thousands of new products…and most importantly they attract buyers from every corner of the retailing world.
