Sports Licensing & entertainment Marketplace
Sports Licensed and Tailgate Industry Green-Light January 2008 Show
Buyers, Sellers & Leagues Confirm Need for Strong Trade Event

Time is money. And when there is money to be made in the licensed sports business, timing is important. These two ideas converged in discussions with licensors, licensed manufacturers and licensed buyers in the days following the Sports Licensing & Entertainment Marketplace and Tailgate • Picnic Show, which debuted in Las Vegas last November.

The result of these talks was a clear, across-the-board consensus: The industry wants and needs a robust annual trade event.

Thus the next Sports Licensing & Entertainment Marketplace and Tailgate • Picnic Show will be held Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, January 16 to 18, 2008 at a new venue, the Sands/Venetian Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sports Stars to Explore Secrets to Winning at Retail
Jerome Bettis & Eddie George Among Panelists at Free Luncheon Event
November 20, 2007

In the world of pro sports, it takes great instincts and competitive spirit to be successful. When athletes turn their attention to off-the-field business, it takes something more. Indeed, only a handful of sports stars have found the secrets to scoring points at retail. Winning Off the Field, a panel discussion scheduled for the first day of The Sports Licensing & Entertainment Marketplace and Tailgate Picnic Show (Wednesday, January 16), brings together a group of athletes who have discovered the keys to success.

Winning Off the Field is one of the Retailing Solutions seminars that is scheduled over the three days of the show, which runs from January 16–18, 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The educational series is free to all attendees and features high-powered information to help retailers grow their sports licensing and tailgate products business.

Eddie George

Award-winning ESPN commentator Jeremy Schaap will host the free luncheon presentation. Joining him will be football stars Jerome Bettis, Eddie George and Marcellus Willey, ultimate fighter Randy Couture, and other sports luminaries. Winning Off the Field begins at 12:30. Space is limited, so attendees are encouraged to reserve their seats (and box lunches) NOW by contacting the show.

Winning Off the Field is sponsored by Prolebrity, a new online sports community that connects pro athletes with one another and with their fans in a safe and trusted environment. Prolebrity showcases the lives of athletes beyond the game, including their social activities, business ventures, and charitable causes, through online calendars, blogs, photos, videos, interactive forums and more. The site will also expand opportunities for professional athletes beyond the realm of sports. Prolebrity is a privately held company created and owned by professional athletes and is headquartered in Santa Monica, California.

“When athletes go into business, they discover quickly that their names may get people in the door the first time, but after that it is good business practice that keeps them coming back,” says Jack Smith, who is assembling the educational program for the Sports Licensing & Entertainment Marketplace and Tailgate Picnic Show. Smith is the founder and former CEO of The Sports Authority.

Randy Couture

“The athletes we are bringing in for this panel were savvy competitors on the field,” he adds. “And they have found the formula for success in the retail marketplace. It is a panel no retailer will want to miss—or can afford to miss. And it’s free for anyone who registers for the show.”

In pro sports, success and failure are measured in points, stats and victories. You win some, you lose some. In retailing, you need to put up W’s every day.
