Pro Bull Riders, Inc. Joins the Mix at November Sports Licensing Show
Fast-Growing PBR Runs Gamut from Mainstream to Extremes

The presence of major league licensors gives a sports trade show its prestige. Yet much of the “newness” still comes from the smaller, more specialized sports with double-digit sales growth and a borderline-crazy fan base.

This is certainly the case with Pro Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR), which will join MLB, MLS, NBA, NFL, NHL, CLC, CLPA, NASCAR and other high-profile organizations at the Sports Licensing & Entertainment Marketplace and Tailgate • Picnic Show this November 9–11 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

“We are truly excited that all of the major licensing entities are building pavilions at our show,” says Ann Keusch, Show Director for ShowProCo Inc., which produces the Sports Licensing & Entertainment Marketplace. “However, we are equally pleased to welcome dynamic groups such as Pro Bull Riders, which bring a different kind of energy and focus to the aisles. We are, after all, a licensing ‘marketplace’ where thousands of buyers are coming for the full shopping experience.”

PBR, which formed in 1992, has a large and devoted core following, but in recent years it has seen its demographic spread rapidly in many directions. Though bull riding will always have its roots in Western culture, the sport’s appeal has spread to families on one end, to extreme sports fans on the other. That does not surprise Rhonda Truett, Vice President of Licensing for Pro Bull Riders, Inc.

“We’re the original extreme sport,” she says. “PBR is a lifestyle brand—very exciting and cutting-edge. Our customers are extremely loyal to our sponsors and retailers.”
In terms of licensees, PBR leans toward the mainstream.

“Our product offerings range from bowling balls, blue jeans and lunch boxes to bedding, barbecue sauce and Christmas ornaments,” Truett says. “And our toy category has taken off in 2006—it has been huge for us. PBR is coming full circle. Children’s and women’s categories are top priorities for ’07.”

'A top priority for PBR and its licensees this November will be reaching out to retailers and exhibitors at the Tailgate • Picnic Show, sponsored by American Tailgaters Association, a “show within a show” at the Sports Licensing & Entertainment Marketplace.

“The tailgating culture is such an important component at PBR events,” says Keusch. “For anyone looking to tap into this amazing new revenue stream, Las Vegas in November will literally be the right place at the right time!”
