The Nail Biter Set to Make Its Debut
August 17, 2011

Chew on this. Jerome Franklin, an inventor from Ohio, may have hit on the next big thing in the licensed sports marketplace. He is eager to introduce the Nail Biter, a patent-pending nail clipper that features team mascots. "It's a unique and different product," says Franklin.

Franklin's initial offering incorporates Pete the Penguin, the mascot from Youngstown State. He is in the process of securing more college licenses. He's also exploring deals with the NBA and NFL.

Franklin has put a great deal of thought into packaging as well. Each Nail Biter comes complete with a Nail Biting Situation card, which reaches back in history to chronicle a famous clutch moment in team history. "This helps make the product a great collector's item," says Franklin.

He sees a diverse market for the Nail Biter—everyone from kids to their grandparents. Currently, Franklin is looking into distribution. That's one of the reasons he has signed up to exhibit at the Sports Licensing and Tailgate Show.

"I want to get a feel for the marketplace," says Franklin. "My goal is to make as many connections as possible in Las Vegas."

Until then, Franklin will continue to find ways to expand the Nail Biter line.
