McSteven's Warming Retailer Hearts with Licensed Cocoa Mixes
September 4, 2011

Is there anything better on a chilly football game day than a cup of hot chocolate? The folks at McSteven's don't think so. And they don't get much of an argument from consumers.

"We've been in business for more than three decades," says Alex Pava, Director of Sales & Marketing. "But we got into sports licensing only a few years ago. We were looking for another outlet for our gourmet cocoa, and the market just exploded."

Indeed, McSteven's now has more than 100 schools under contract, and the company has been approached by several professional leagues. McSteven's puts a fun twist on its licensed product, offering hot chocolate that turns into the school color. "All of our cocoas are instant," says Pava. "You just add water."

Also available are generic sport packages that make great gift items.

McSteven's makes it just as easy on its retail partners. The company offers an open stock program for smaller orders and a shipping program for larger orders. "The licensed sports market has become a real focus for us," says Pava.

To that end, McSteven's will exhibit at the Sports Licensing and Tailgate Show for the first time in 2012. "We're eager to introduce ourselves to retailers and buyers who might not know us," says Pava. "Our instant cocoa is a very giftable item for fans looking for something that's fun and different."
