The
Highland Mint Keeps Retailers in the Game
Striking Products Commemorate Unforgettable Moments
in Sports
September 5, 2006
Licensed product retailers are always on the lookout for bright ideas, and for more than two decades The Highland Mint has been supplying them with collectible items geared to catch the consumer's eye and imagination.
If there is a team, event or player whose achievements are worthy of commemorating in gold, bronze or silver, The Highland Mint is at the ready to create a limited edition memento for the collecting public. Products range in price from $9.99 to rare showpieces in the thousands.

The
company currently holds licenses with MLB, MLBA, Minor League
Baseball, NFLP, NBA, NHL and NHLPA, as well as licenses
with a number of other entities to produce and/or distribute
official products. “Our product line is really expanding,”
says Vince Bohbot. “We have something available for
every team.”
In recent years, the company has bolstered its performance
in the sports market with its Photomint line, which features
memorable moments and superstar players captured in striking
color photos framed with 24K gold medallions. Many of these
limited editions include game-used memorabilia, enhancing
both their rarity and fan appeal.
The company's newest release is its NFL game-used Photomint, available this week. Each piece has an 8 x 10 photo, a team coin, and a one-inch square piece of a football that is certified used by the team during an official game. The leather is contained in a second, specially made coin.
Speaking of football, one of the company's most popular items has been the Super Bowl flip coin, a replica of the real deal struck in bronze and silver. It features the Super Bowl Roman numeral logo on one side and the helmets of the two teams — along with the Lombardi Trophy — on the other. Game coins for every Super Bowl, done in 24kt gold overlay, are also available in limited editions of 5,000 each.

The Highland Mint will be exhibiting at this November's Sports Licensing & Entertainment Marketplace in Las Vegas. Besides showing its latest items, the company will also be showing custom minting programs.
“We can create a line just for retailers — available exclusively in their stores,” says Bohbot.
Bohbot
adds that The Highland Mint has continued to refine its
e-commerce abilities, enabling stores to find and order
whatever they need online, with a one-day turnaround on
shipping, given that everything it sells is made here in
the U.S.
The Highland Mint's creative team is headed by Caesar Rufo,
one of America’s foremost medallic sculptors. His
pieces are on display all over the world, from the Smithsonian
Institute in Washington to the La Scala Museum in Milan.
