Highland Graphics Cooks Up a Winner with New 3-D Coasters
April 22, 2008

When Ron and Mark Wall launched Highland Graphics more than two decades ago, their goals were somewhat modest. The brother team started out with a set of decorative coasters. It didn’t take long, however, for the company to grow into a kitchen and home accessories staple.

“We now have more than 25 items in our product line,” says Dawn Rogers, National Sales Manager. “Our unique products include the AbsorbaStone line and the ArtWorks line. Innovation and high-quality products are our hallmarks.”

That’s evident from Highland’s newest offerings, 3-D coasters available in a large number of college teams. “They really make an impact,” says Rogers. “The coasters come in an upright stand. The artwork is unbelievable. It pops out at you.”

The collegiate licensed business has proven a strong market for Highland. The company boasts more than 60 of the top schools nationwide. The SEC leads the way.

“Our business used to be late second quarter and then into the third and fourth quarters,” says Rogers. “Now we find that we get orders all year round.”

The performance of licensed products has given Highland a lot to think about. According to Rogers, the company is interested in exploring other licensing opportunities. “Our customers are for NFL and MLB product all the time,” she says.

For now, however, Highland will continue to expand its reach in the collegiate market. The company has found a receptive audience in everyone from teenagers to women in their late 30s and 40s who want an affordable way to upgrade their home décor. In 2009, Highland will increase its market share further in the tabletop category. “We’re talking everything from textiles to dishware,” says Rogers. “The collection will be trendy and cutting edge.”

That plays right into Highland’s wheelhouse. “We offer high quality products that are made in the USA,” says Rogers. “We ship quickly and are priced well for extra margins.”
