Garbage Time
FANBasket Eager for Industry Debut
November 22, 2010

Some say a problem in the licensed sports and tailgate industries is a lack of ingenuity when it comes to new products. FANBasket has an answer for those critics. The company isn’t recycling old ideas; rather it has a unique idea for recycling.

“We wanted to do something that was value-added,” says Vice President of Sales Mike Sullivan. “Recycling has become an essential part of everyday life. We have found a way to make this fun for college sports fans.”

Indeed, FANBasket has hit the marketplace with two designs of recycling bins that give a whole new meaning to the term “trash talk.” The Fight Song features an oversized replica helmet placed on top of a football-shaped garbage can. When recyclables are tossed in through the facemask, the school’s fight song plays. FANBasket also offers a scaled-down version called the Field Goal.

“We’re currently licensed with 54 teams through CLC,” says Sullivan. “The list includes the SEC and ACC. We plan to continue adding more teams.”

According to Sullivan, the uses of the FANBasket are also growing. “We created the product for tailgating,” he says. “But we’ve heard from people who tell us the FANBasket is great a laundry hamper or as a decorative trash can in an office setting.”

The FANBasket rollout is still in the early stages. Sullivan says there will be a big push in 2011, including an exhibit at the Sports Licensing and Tailgate Show in Las Vegas. “Our display will be in the tailgate section,” he explains. “We’ve already received some great feedback from the industry.”

Perhaps most notable is the vote of confidence from the folks at Siskiyou, including Ken Stringer. “He took a real interest in FANBasket,” says Sullivan. “We appreciate Ken’s support, and we’re grateful for the partnership we‘ve formed with Siskiyou.”

“FANBasket is the most unique product to come to the marketplace in a long time,” he adds
