Dura-Tent Making Life Easier for Tailgaters
August 24, 2010
There's nothing worse than the perfect tailgate spread ruined by windy weather or pesky flies. Dan Rothweil believes he has the answer to these problems, and consumers are agreeing with him. Rothweil is the inventor of the Dura-Tent, a mesh-enclosed tent designed to shelter food, drinks, plates and utensils. The Dura-Tent will make its industry debut at the Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show in January of 2011.
"The Dura-Tent has already proven to have a significant market," says Rothweil. "There is a real need for this design."
Rothweil came up with the idea for the Dura-Tent while enjoying pool parties with family and friends. "Somebody always had to stand guard over the food," he recalls. "We figured there had to be a better way."

The solution was the Dura-Tent, which is currently available in two sizes: picnic style and banquet style. Both offer ample space for everything that goes into a tailgate party, backyard cookout or meals while camping. "We have a strong patent," says Rothweil. "Future designs for the next generation of Dura-Tent are already approved. The product lends itself to complimentary items and multi-sale purchases."
At present, Rothweil is focusing on two major objectives for the Dura-Tent. First, he wants to establish a much greater presence at retail. He sees tremendous opportunity up and down the marketplace. "We're a good fit for any retailer with an outdoor twist, from independents and Mom & Pops to big box," he says.
Licensing is also on Rothweil's radar. Tailgaters are a key demographic for the Dura-Tent, which makes versions with team logos and colors a no-brainer. "There is huge potential there," says Rothweil.
That makes his trip to the Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show all the more important. Rothweil feels the show is a great setting to introduce the Dura-Tent and gain product visibility. He's eager to talk to retailers and buyers and explore new distribution channels. He will also have a chance to test the licensing waters.
"The bandwagon for the Dura-Tent is growing," says Rothweil. "We're the only product of its kinds out there. And we're friendly to retailers. We provide a pricing structure that supports any level of distribution."
