Small Wonders
Little Guys Can Hit the Big Time in Las Vegas
November 11, 2008

For many of the start-ups and smaller companies that exhibit at the Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show each year, there exists a real opportunity to be discovered and take a business to the next level. Russell Meyerowitz knows this better than anyone. He arrived in Las Vegas last January eager to introduce On Fire Beer Pong to the industry. Meyerowitz made quite an impression, thanks in part to the bevy of beauties on hand at his booth.

But the real shock waves of his participation in the show weren’t felt for a few months. In April, On Fire was acquired by College Tonight and then rebranded as Quad Pong. At the heart of College Tonight is The Quad, a free web platform that caters specifically to the college experience. Meyerowitz is now the Director of The Shop, the Quad’s retail store.

“College Tonight is a social media company,” he says. “The Quad is exactly what every college student can use as a sidekick to their college experience.”

It has also proven a perfect outlet to sell Quad Pong. Meyerowitz reports that there are currently 13 different table designs for this clever take on beer pong, including a football model, a camouflage model and a pink model aimed at women. “These are actually multi-purpose tables,” he says. “You can also use them for tailgating and camping, for example. Sports fans love Quad Pong.”

Given Quad Pong’s growing popularity, Meyerowitz plans on looking into strategies for expansion. Licensing is an intriguing option, as is moving into brick and mortar. “We’re working on a new product focused specifically on retail,” he says.

As Meyerowitz readily admits, none of this would have been possible without his appearance at the Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show. You could say that On Fire Beer Pong turned up the heat after a visit to Sin City.
