Frame Up
Church Hill Classics Makes the Memories Last
March 31, 2009

This year alone Church Hill Classics will handcraft more than 110,000 frames. A significant portion of those will be licensed, insignia diploma frames for the collegiate marketplace. “Virtually everything we frame is done to exacting, high-quality standards,” says Church Hill Vice President Joe Voves. “This includes museum quality matting, mounting, glazing and rigorous QC inspecting.”

Thanks to a creative marketing approach, Church Hill has discovered a host of applications for its frames—all of which open additional revenue steams for the company’s retail partners. For example, high school students can celebrate the milestone of earning a varsity letter. College athletes can commemorate a championship season. Sports collectors can forever cherish a priceless piece of memorabilia.

Diploma frames, however, are Church Hill’s bread and butter. The company was founded as a home-based framing business by Joe’s wife Lucie in 1991. “We began as custom framers and art publishers, primarily servicing the college market,” she says. “After numerous customer requests, we expanded into the diploma frame business and have found our niche there.”

That niche has grown to include custom work. In fact, Joe feels this is one of the real advantages that Church Hill offers to the licensed sports industry.

“We have tremendous ability to do contract framing and fulfillment,” he says. “We worked with Hunt Studio on two sports projects—for LSU and Alabama—in 2008. Both were very successful. We handled all of the framing and the drop-shipping.”

Church Hill is eager to expand on its custom program in 2009.
