Sports Licensing & entertainment Marketplace
Sports Licensed and Tailgate Industry Green-Light January 2008 Show
Buyers, Sellers & Leagues Confirm Need for Strong Trade Event

Time is money. And when there is money to be made in the licensed sports business, timing is important. These two ideas converged in discussions with licensors, licensed manufacturers and licensed buyers in the days following the Sports Licensing & Entertainment Marketplace and Tailgate • Picnic Show, which debuted in Las Vegas last November.

The result of these talks was a clear, across-the-board consensus: The industry wants and needs a robust annual trade event.

Thus the next Sports Licensing & Entertainment Marketplace and Tailgate • Picnic Show will be held Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, January 16 to 18, 2008 at a new venue, the Sands/Venetian Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Licensing Outlook:
Q&A with Kevin O’Neill, National Sales Manager Licensed Division, Antigua
October 30, 2007

It’s World Series time, and for Kevin O’Neill and the folks at Antigua, that means another season of hot-market product. Of course, this is just another day at the office for the licensed apparel giant. Antigua has built its reputation on servicing hot markets with high-quality fashions for men, women and children. O’Neill took a few minutes from his busy schedule to talk to us about this year’s Fall Classic and the industry in general.

LOGO!: Antigua is right in the middle of producing and shipping World Series product. What is that process like, and what are your biggest challenges?

Kevin O’Neill: It’s a normal occurrence for us, so we don’t really see the process as a challenge. Antigua is built on a model of being able to turn product around. We guarantee at-once turnaround for our customers.

LOGO!: What type of World Series product do you have available?

Kevin O’Neill: Anything that’s in our catalog. All of our men’s, women’s and youth apparel is available with a World Series Logo or the logo of the Rockies or Red Sox. That includes our luggage as well.

LOGO!: Clearly, hot-market product is crucial to Antigua’s business. What opportunities does it afford your customers?

Kevin O’Neill: The hot-market business is an intricate part of any licensed manufacturer. For Antigua, it is a great way to build the brand. For our customers, it is a great opportunity to move merchandise during a major event. The product sells as soon as it hits the floor.

LOGO!: Do you have any advice for retailers trying to maximize hot-market business?

Kevin O’Neill: Prepare early and then keep your fingers crossed.

LOGO!: How has your licensed business been overall in 2007?

Kevin O’Neill: It’s been good. Major League Baseball and college have been driving business.

LOGO!: Antigua is getting ready for the Sports Licensing & Entertainment Marketplace and Tailgate • Picnic Show, in January of 2008. Can you give us a sneak preview of what you’re working on?

Kevin O’Neill: We will launch our 2008 Back to School product line. Retailers and buyers can check all of our new collections, including men’s and women’s.
