Action Images Debuts Allstar Cookies

Let them eat cake—and cookies. That’s the message from Tom Green, the president of Action Images and his national sales manager Chuck Taylor. Licensed sports buyers know Action Images for its artistically rendered lithographs, prints, posters and wearables. Now you can add edibles to that list.

“We pride ourselves on fine-art prints at poster prices,” says Green. “Our newest endeavor is MLB Players licensed cookies and cakes featuring hi-res images of professional baseball players.”

Edibles are quite a departure from the standard Action Images offerings. The company got its start in 1985 with a licensed Chicago Bears print that celebrated the team’s Super Bowl championship. “We met with the team and showed our artwork,” recalls Green. “The Bears actually went to the NFL and recommended us as a licensee.”

From there, Action Images acquired others licenses, first the MLBPA and then NCAA schools and NASCAR. All along, the company’s focus remained on the finest in quality. “We don’t cut any corners on the production end,” says Green.

That philosophy extends to the new edibles product line—known as Allstar Cookies. “Everyone comments on the artwork, but the cookies also taste great,” says Green.

The first rollout of Allstar Cookies shipped on Opening Day. The response, says Green, has been amazing. “Matt Nykiel of the White Sox said our cookies are the most exciting idea he’s seen in 15 years,” he notes. “They have opened exciting possibilities for Action Images.”

Indeed, the company is reaching out to an entirely new demographic—kids, mothers and grandparents—while also tapping into broader channels of distribution. Green says that this is all part of the Action Images strategy for expansion.

“We see opportunities in fundraising, the vending market and gift stores,” he explains. “Promotions are another big area. We’ve already met with a number of MLB stadiums. Allstar Cookies are at a great price point for all types of promotions.”

Green believes Action Images’ new direction is a winning proposition for licensed dealers. “If you’re interested in trying something totally fresh, Allstar Cookies offer a turnaround rate you wont find in any other product,” he says. “We plan to add other sports. Collegiate will also be part of the program.”
